Birth, Breath, & Death Workshop
Birth, Breath, and Death is a 3-hour workshop based upon the work/writing of Amy Wright Glenn, founder of the Institute for the Study of Birth, Breath, and Death. Being human involves experiencing the wonder of birth, the flow of being in union with the breath of life, and the grief of death. Each individual moves through these passageways and thresholds. The Birth, Breath, and Death workshop offers a sacred space for heartfelt exploration of what it means to be born, breathe through life’s joys and challenges, and die. Michelle is honored to offer this course online through The Institute for the Study of Birth, Breath, & Death.

All of us are born. All of us die.
We each encounter both the miraculous and the mundane.
We are at the mercy of the energies of birth and death.
Given this, we all benefit from reflecting upon life's big questions."
—Amy Wright Glenn
What does it mean to be born?
What does it mean to be mindful of life’s breath?
What is the significance of death?
These three questions above are central to human life. Throughout time, philosophers and spiritual leaders have reflected on them, and wise ones from across all ages and cultures have offered their own insights into answering these universal questions. And, of course, everyone who has been touched by birth, breath, and death wrestles at times with what it all means.
The Birth, Breath, and Death workshop is designed to create a safe space for heartfelt inquiry into these questions. People of all philosophies and faith traditions are warmly welcomed to gather together to listen, learn, and ~ most importantly ~ personally reflect upon the questions above. Being human involves experiencing the wonder of birth, the flow of being in union with the breath of life, and the grief of death. Each individual moves through these passageways and thresholds. The Birth, Breath, and Death workshop provides a sacred space for heartfelt exploration through discussion, journaling, meditation, gentle inquiry, and private reflection.
The three questions explored in this workshop are at the heart of the key themes present in Amy’s two books: Birth, Breath, and Death, published by CreateSpace in 2013, and Holding Space: On Loving, Dying, and Letting Go, published by Parallax Press in 2017. We will be referring to the following books for our course of study. You may be able to find them at your local libraries, or you can purchase them if you like. They are beautiful reads.
